Privacy Tools For Internet Explorer

In this section I show you how to set the privacy settings in Internet Explorer to increase your online privacy, but for the best browser privacy option, I recommend the free browser from Stealth Browser Pro.  Click here for more information.

Clear History

Top Menu > Tools > Internet Options

Clearing the history is a quick and easy way to eliminate the website addresses that auto complete in your browser.  You don't want anyone to use your computer and have an adult website address auto complete when they are typing in cnn.com.  Clearing the history also clears the History section of the browser that lists all the websites you've surfed to.  You definatly don't want your boss seeing anything in there.

To get to the screen above, click on the "Tools" menu item in the top menu bar of your browser, then select "Internet Options". Click on the "Clear History" button that you see in the image above that's highlighted with the red border.

Set History Days to Zero

Top Menu > Tools > Internet Options

Setting the "Days to keep pages in history" to '0' will keep pages from being written to the history.  You should do this.

On this screnn, simply type zero in the box then click on apply.

Delete Temporary Internet Files

Top Menu > Tools > Internet Options

Your browser writes temporary files to your computer.  This is so websites you visit often will load faster since images and blocks of text will load from your hard drive and not over the Internet.  Yes, you read that right.  Your computer stores images from sites you visit on your hard drive without your knowledge.  You need to select "Delete Files" when you leave work each day.  You could have thousands of incriminating files left on your computer if you don't.
Delete Cookies

Top Menu > Tools > Internet Options

Cookies are small pieces of text written to your computer by websites that help track you through the site and let the site refer to you by name.  They are usually completely harmless.  However someone who knows what they are doing (computer guys at work) can get into the directory on your computer that stores cookies and figure out what sites you've visited.  I recommend you "Delete Cookies" at the end of work each day.
Privacy Settings

Top Menu > Tools > Internet Options > Privacy

This screen is where you set your security level in regards to 'cookies'.  To get to this screen, click on the 'Privacy' tab on the 'Internet Options' menu item of the browser under 'Tools'.
Set Privacy to Medium

Top Menu > Tools > Internet Options > Privacy

I suggest you set your privacy level to 'medium'.
Edit Cookies for individual sites

Top Menu > Tools > Internet Options > Privacy

If you are getting errors from a website saying that you need to lower your cookie settings so that it will work, all you have to do is click on 'Edit' and enter the website address, then click on 'Allow'.  This will let the site bypass your security settings.
